Should I get a ground-mounted solar system if I have space in my back yard?

I have a roof that I've been told is not ideal for solar, but also have about an acre of property surrounding my house. Would it be worth it for me to just go ahead and have the system mounted on the ground instead of my roof?

Ground mounted solar is a great way to go as long as it is located where there is no shading from trees or other buildings. It costs a little more about 20-30 cents a watt more but the advatages are they can be sited properly for the best production, they are easy to clean and remove snow from, and there are no holes or penetrations in your roof. We install solar in rural Colorado and I would say 70% of our installs are ground mounts for the reasons above. Curtis @
