This is a situation we haven't run into before! Generally, when a third party owns your solar energy system, that third party is a corporation (like SolarCity or SunRun) not an individual. You have a leasing or a PPA contact with the owner of your system in those cases. To qualify for the ITC you must own the property on which the solar energy system is installed. Depending on where you live, virtual net metering might be an option for you. This policy allows you to share the power from someone else's solar energy system.
