Can I get a solar PV system if my roof does not face south?

My roof does not face perfectly south -- it actually faces south east (and more east than south). It is a completely unobstructed, 45 degree pitch. Can I get a solar PV system installed on it? Will I be able to lease this system?

Yes. There are many new optimizers that can be used in order to get the most out of your PV array. Solar Edge makes a great product that will allow for system to achieve maximum power potential even on a not so optimum roof.

You can most certainly lease a system with a west or east facing roof. The reduced output - usually about 25% less than a southern facing roof will show up in your lease payment. Since you don't pay for a leased system up front the leasing company will recoup the loss of the electricity they couldn't sell you and the extra RECs that won't be generated in a higher price per kWh (a higher lease payment). It is probably still a good deal. Your orientation of east doesn't necessarily mean you need optimizers if there isn't any shade. However, optimizers or even better micro-inverters will help you realize and produce the maximum amount of electricity. Bird poop, dust, pollen, and the manufacturing of the panels themselves lend themselves to these devices. (We prefer micro-inverters - ESPECIALLY if you will own the system)
